Southern California Dachshund Rescue & Nowzad Dogs

Besides my fanatical interest in collecting SAE components, my most rewarding joy in life is fostering homeless dachshunds as a member of Southern California Dachshund Relief, Inc. (www.scdr.org) until they get their own "forever" home. Besides my spoiled rotten crew of six dachshunds, I usually foster five to ten more dogs in various stages of rehabilitation. From recuperating from injuries or illness, learning new social skills or finally getting to see that not all people are bad, they stay at our house until they are healthy physically or mentally and ready for adoption. Most of the time the dachshunds I foster are really good dogs caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Every once in a while, we get one who is ready to test your patience but my wife and I are always ready for the challenge. When you get a phone call from someone who adopted one of your foster dogs and they tell you how much they love their new addition to the family, it makes it all worthwhile.

If you plan to add a dog to your family, no matter what breed is your favorite, please contact your local rescue group and adopt a rescue dog.

If you got an owners or service manual from me and would like to make a $10.00 donation per manual to Southern California Dachshund Relief, Inc., it is greatly appreciated. Our vet bill alone was over $50,000.00 last year. We are now a 501(c)3 corporation and all donations are tax deductible if you are from the USA.  Please PayPal your donation to www.scdr.org and select the "Donate" button. Again, many thanks.

As you can see, I need a periscope to watch TV.

If you are from Europe, I have no idea on how your tax laws work for charities based in Europe but here is another great organization to donate to. Nowzad (www.nowzad.com) is a British charity whose main goal is to help military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan get the dogs and cats they have adopted transported out of Iraq and Afghanistan and to their home country. For these soldiers, adopting a stray is probably their only chance at a little normalcy and to show some compassion in a pretty brutal situation. Whether your politics agree with this action or not is a moot point, these soldiers are putting their lives on the line and deserve to bring their furry buddies home.

If you are from the USA and want to donate to this great cause, the Soldier's Animal Companion Fund is the USA site to use so that your donation is tax deductable - http://sacfund.giving.officelive.com/default.aspx
